About Black Voices in Cabaret

Black Voices in Cabaret, an initiative of Working In Concert, is a project that highlights Black entertainers, both past and present, in the world of Cabaret. Cabaret is a place where audience is face to face with dancers, spoken-word artists, gender-fluid entertainers, musicians, magicians, variety arts entertainers, and singers. Cabaret is inclusive of all musical genres, such as Rhythm and Blues, Spoken Word, Soul, Gospel, Jazz, Classical song, and more.

We are responding to the relative lack of recognition afforded African-American cabaret performers. We encourage their professional development, and we provide them with opportunities to perform with new audiences. We bring these performers and their performances to communities in the Chicago area and beyond, engaging with audiences through intimate performances, seminars, and events. We provide a Black lens into Cabaret and the world of entertainment.
