Black Voices in Cabaret, an initiative of Working In Concert, is a project that highlights Black entertainers who have not traditionally been acknowledged in the world of Cabaret—a place where audience is face to face with dancers, spoken-word artists, gender-fluid entertainers, musicians, magicians/variety arts entertainers, and singers.
We highlight African-American cabaret performers, both past and present. We encourage their professional development, and we provide them with opportunities to perform with new audiences. We bring these performers and there performances to communities in the Chicago area and beyond, engaging with audiences through intimate performances, seminars, and events. We provide a Black lens into Cabaret and the world of entertainment.
Cabaret is inclusive of all musical genres, such as Rhythm and Blues, Spoken Word, Soul, Gospel, Jazz, Classical song, Magic, and more.
